The Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB) is the largest digital library and national knowledge platform in the Arab region. It was launched as a presidential initiative by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi during the National Science Day in 2014, and officially began offering services in 2016. It provides free and open access to a vast range of scientific, educational, and cultural resources for all Egyptians, including students, researchers, educators, and the general public.
To meet the diverse needs of its users, the EKB operates through four specialized sub-portals:
Through partnerships with major global publishing houses and content providers, the EKB hosts millions of books, journals, databases, videos, and learning tools across multiple disciplines and educational levels. The platform is available in both Arabic and English and aims to democratize access to knowledge, support scientific research, and enhance education quality in Egypt. It is internationalized and recognized by UNESCO and UNICEF.
The EKB is a cornerstone of Egypt’s digital transformation and knowledge economy strategy, offering services that include virtual labs, professional development for teachers, research tools, and more.
